I dined in McLaughlins restaurant last night. This website identifies them as coeliac friendly - they are not. We had two waiters and neither of them knew what the term meant. When asked, they said that all of the dishes were gluten free. Of course they were not! After a double check with the chef, for dessert, I was offered cheesecake without the base or a knickerbockerglory without the brown bread ice cream and the caramelised bananas. Not coeliac friendly at all at all. Very disappointing. So all coeliac and gluten allergy sufferers, take note. Apart from this, it was a nice restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and an enjoyable evening. But I have to note that they are not coeliac friendly at all.

Myself an my boyfriend stayed in the hotel for the long weekend and went for dinner one of the evenings. I thought the staff were lovely and helpful an the restaurant was nice. The food was also good, my favourite part had to be the reaspberry and passionfruit eaton mess.. the only draw back would be i woulda liken if there was one or two slightly cheaper options as once it was past the early bird time the mains got rather pricey.

I had previously eaten in the bar here. Today we chose the restaurant but perhaps we would have been wiser going to the bar. We two along with three other people were the only patrons in the place. On arrival we were sternly asked if we had a reservation. Even though we did it was hardly important due to the emptiness of the place. I didn't find the service great here. It could have been more smiling, friendly and attentive. The people next to us were sorting out the final touches to their wedding reception which was going to be held in this establishment. Staff were fussing over their table much to the neglect of ours. On a more positive note the food was very good in taste, temperature and presentation. The lunch menu offered a fair enough choice of food. I found the atmosphere lacking in this eatery mostly due to the small number of patrons who were seated in a large empty dining room. In addition the butter which accompanied the tasty bread rolls came served in two chipped dishes which I find totally unacceptable. In relation to here I found relatively good value for money food tainted by poor service and lack of atmosphere. On todays visit I would not return to the restaurant but would perhaps opt for the bar food in future.
