Our philosophy at Essence is to create an experience that brings you fantastic food, superb wines and exceptional service together in comfortable, contemporary surroundings.
Chef/Proprietor Robbie Burns is a local man who has honed his culinary skills over 15 years in some of Ireland's finest establishments such as Fallon & Byrne, Mount Juliet and Bon Appetite. His menu is inspired by the seasons and the locally sourced ingredients that are abundant from both land and sea around North County Dublin.
Overseeing professional, yet relaxed friendly service, Restaurant Manager Ian Montgomery has over 20 years experience in the Hospitality Industry. A native of County Antrim, Ian moved to Swords in 2007 to manage the Osborne at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.

Recommended: We were a large party with kids and chose to eat early. The kids food was healthy and great value. The standard of cooking is very high, especially for Swords compared to other options. Best of all it is very good value for money and we will be back.

A group of us visited on a Wednesday evening for a birthday celebration. As it was mid-week, it wasn't that busy but was certainly ticking over.
The atmosphere was OK, though our waitress seemed a bit stressed at having 6 of us ordering at one time.
The menu was nice and varied with something to suit everyone. Half of us had the smoked salmon salad to start which was lovely. The rest opted for soup. My friend is a coeliac and they were able to provide gluten free bread to accompany her soup which was good to see.
Nearly all of us ordered steak but unfortunately they were all extremely fatty and we ended up leaving a lot of it- a bit disappointing all round.
We weren't encouraged to linger over our coffees and got the impression that the staff wanted to close up and go home.
All in all, I thought it was a bit pricey for the food on offer but the place does have potential.

Been to Essence several times over the past 12 months, and keep wanting to go back. The service is just excellent, never been let down once, and the food is really beautiful. A well-built menu that is interesting and informative, and more importantly delicious, it is hard to fault Ian and the staff at Essence. They celebrated 2 years in business lately, and it is not hard to see why.

I really love this restaurant! The food is fantastic, its hot, beautifully presented and delicious! I gave just 4 stars for the atmosphere as I was on a short lunch one day and dashed in for a bowl of soup, I just needed to fly in and fly out, service was speedy as always but I felt a little out of place which was mainly down to the customers on that particular day!

Six of us ate here on a Saturday night it was quiet enough when we arrived but a few others arrived after us. The food was lovely we all had starters mains and two of us had dessert. One of the girls had fish the other had pasta for there mains. I had Caesar salad, pork and apple pie all so good. Two of the guys had steak which they loved and the other had a burger. Nothing was left on any of our plates. I look forward to going here again soon.

this place is really nice and great value for money i got the mushroom starter and the chicken for main, chicken couldnt have been cooked better, the dessert choice is minimal but the apple tart is very cleverly done. the service wasnt great i found the waitress did not have a customer friendly attitude.

Went with my partner a few weeks ago, a friend had offer us a voucher (2 starters, 2 mains + 2 glasses of bubbles).
We could chose anything from the menu (some vouchers are limited). The service, food, atmosphere was great. Will definitely recommend and go back myself...
