Hedigans The Brian Boru, Glasnevin

A warm welcome awaits you at The Brian Boru, conveniently located close to Glasnevin Cemetery , Croke Park and the Botanical Gardens on the banks of The Royal Canal. The olde world traditional pub is a popular “Local”. In years gone by King Brian Boru camped on the site the night before the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 and world renowned writer James Joyce mentions the pub in Ulysses. The quality pub food is something to savour with Early Bird, Sunday Roast Lunch and the sumptuous A La Carte menus on offer. The pub has excellent weekly entertainment from Farmers Markets to Traditional Music sessions, Quizzes to Meetings and highlights how the pub has changed with the times. We are an excellent choice of venue to watch any of the major sporting events on TV. Our superior private room is the ideal party venue and comes with its own private bar and complimented by our professional staff. In keeping with the Irish tradition of writing our Irish Writers DVD is shown throughout the day and was made on location in the pub. Sit back and enjoy readings of James Joyce, Sean O’Casey, Roddy Doyle and Oscar Wilde. Car parking is free for patrons. Our superior function room is the ideal party venue with menus, ipod and private bar. There is something for everyone to enjoy at The Brian Boru.

Visited here with a friend last Friday on a living social meal deal. Even though Hedigans is local to me I hadn't eaten here in years. Great value 2 starters and 2 main courses from the early bird menu and an alcoholic drink each for a total of €20. Staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was excellent value. Will definitely be making a return visit!

I ate here 3 years ago and wasn't particularly impressed. However, we returned recently with a Livingsocial voucher and couldn't believe the improvement ! First of all, the friendliness and attention of the staff was unbelievable. It was like we were guests in their homes. The food wasn't half bad either ! The starters were delicious (soup and an excellent Caesar Salad) and the main courses were restaurant quality. Mrs Slurryhead had the fish which was delicious and I had the mouth watering chicken stir fry. We ate in the pleasantly laid out snug with one other couple who were also well pleased with their meal. There was a very pleasant ambience throughout the pub, which is full of surprising little alcoves, and the staff really seemed to be enjoying going about their work. Phibsboro and Glasnevin have a growing number of high quality eateries which makes the trip into town to eat an unnecessary journey. As we were leaving, a traditional music session was getting underway which we reluctantly left behind us. We'll be back shortly though ! .

I've only really started going to the Brian Boru in the past two months but I must say I am now a regular! They have an amzing beer garden which is nicer than some you see in pubs/clubs in town! The boys in our group drink Guinness and suggest that the Boru pours a nicer pint than elsewhere.... The food is nice for somewhere relaxed and chilled for chats with friends or for a meal with the family. Its not badly priced either and the selection of food is amazing. This place is a hidden gem, I used to pass it all the time but it looked dull from the outside but its not at all! And last night (a Saturday) we passed by and the upstairs was open with music coming out of it so I must try it on a Saturday! The bar staff are lovely too (: I'm 21 and love the place! Not for a proper night out obviously but for chats with the friends and some nice food.
