Downstairs Restaurant 4.5 star review: Went on Thursday with a voucher which cost 20e for 40e worth of food. The place is lovely, the food unbelievable. I had duck parfait and chicken. Amazing. My partner had crab for starter and fillet steak. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, best meal in a long time. Very expensive though. Our bill was 85e for 2 starters, 2 mains and a bottle of wine. Too expensive in these times i think. Worth it though for a special occasion.

Downstairs Restaurant 4.5 star review: Went to Downstairs on St Patrick's day with the family for a treat. It has been a few months since my last visit and I found out they were awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide. A well deserved award, food is outstanding every time I eat in this restaurant, impeccable service and great atmosphere.

Downstairs Restaurant 3.5 star review: The food, service and atmosphere were all very good. The menu has limited choice however and was a little bit over-priced I thought.

Downstairs Restaurant 4.0 star review: Went with the family last Sunday. Food was fine and so were the staff however it took soooo loooong for the food to arrive - I'm guessing 30 minutes or more. Interesting as thee were only 2 other tables occupied - would worry how long it would take if it were full!

Kids loved the presentation i.e. food on a block of wood and they got a good kick out of this. Thoughtfully the kids meals came with veggies although asking a child to eat sugar snaps and runner beans is a big ask - peas/carrots or sweetcorn would be a better bet.

Downstairs Restaurant 5.0 star review: We have eaten here a number of times now and it keeps getting better. Service has become friendlier and more efficient and the food is great. The menu is very interesting, changes regularly and is very good value at €23.95 for 2 courses and €26 for 3.This deal applies all night every night too. There are always specials which, in our experience, are worth trying. Wine is reasonable and coffee is good. Gilbert and Wrights Bar upstairs is a lovely place to start the evening or have a drink afterwards.

Downstairs Restaurant 3.0 star review: Went here on Friday evening. Love the seventies retro decor! Have been here a few times now and this visit was as good as each of the others. It was quite empty when we arrived but filled up quite quickly. Starters were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic - smoked duck with asparagus and poached duck egg for me and my friend had Parma ham with fresh garden peas, and cold mint and pea soup (served in s littje glass bottle on the side) - just beautiful! This was followed by chicken breast in the most lovely sweet corn creamy sauce with mash and loin of lamb with chickpeas - both were amazinly tasty and beautifully presented. Neither of us had room for desert but I know from previous visits that deserts here are fantastic! Two courses with a bottle of wine plus one glass of red wine came to E72. Just won't find better value than that! Service is great too from the initial welcome through asking if everything is ok at each course without being intrusive. Will be back again - and again!

Downstairs Restaurant 5.0 star review: I want to congratulate all the team of Downstairs for the fabulous evening that me and my partner had. The food was unbelievably good and the service impeccable. Staff was very helpful when it came to decide about the wine and explaining some details about the food. At the time we arrived the restaurant wasn't very busy but that changed quickly which transformed the whole atmosphere. Once again, thanks to the Downstairs team. We will be back soon.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
