The Exchequer 3.0 star review: The early bird ends here at 4pm on Fridays so I imagine that's why it wasn't as busy as we expected at 6.30pm but there was a good buzz. The layout is modern with predominantly bench style seating and cutlery placed in pint glasses on the table. Staff were a little too quick to tell us we had to vacate the table by 8.30pm but we had no issue with this as we were going out after anyway. The only menu option was the a la carte and for a gastropub it is very expensive. Starters average at €9, mains €23 and side dishes are an extra €3.50. None of us opted for starters, for mains we had bacon & cabbage, venison, veal and fish of the day which was trout. It took approximately 20 mins for the dishes to arrive. They were beautifully presented but portions were very well controlled. The best laugh of the night came with the arrival of the side salad that was ordered. It was the smallest side salad we'd every seen. The desserts were the usual types - brownies, jelly and ice cream etc - all with a twist and again, beautifully presented at €5.50 each. Everyone was happy with their dishes but we all felt that it was seriously overpriced for a gastropub and if any of us were to return, it would be for the early bird or Sunday lunch specials.

The Exchequer 4.5 star review: My son organised the roast dinner here for my birthday and it was delicious. it was such a novelty having your own roast delivered to your table with all the trimmings and serving it yourself. It was like having a dinner at home without all the trouble and great fun. The pork was 'melt in the mouth' and everything else was lovely. Would definitely return for the roast dinner but also for the regular dining.

The Exchequer 5.0 star review: I'd been to The Exchequer a couple of times just for drinks and liked it well enough except for the battered armchair which ripped my dress on one occasion! Anyway this time I went for food and had the best meal I've had in ages! I had the lamb which I would never usually order and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and served with a great assortment of veg, so great in fact that I even thought I didn't need the roast potatoes that came with it, and I never say that about a carb!! It took a while to be served as it is cooked to order but I didn't mind at all because the waiter had told me that in advance. My friend had the duck wellington and was equally impressed, although was a bit upset not to get any potatoes but I was happy to share mine! Staff were really really friendly and chatty. Will definitely be back, can't wait to try the Sunday roast!

The Exchequer 4.0 star review: Went on spec last Sunday, might be an idea to book ahead next time. Lovely menu with the option to prebook your own party's roast. Loved the friendly staff, the warm spiced pumpkin salad & especially loved our pre-dinner mojito! Will definitely return.

The Exchequer 4.0 star review: Ate for the first time here on Thursday night. Whilst the place was very busy the staff were attentive. The food was delicious however there was quite a delay on the main course. The place was buzzing and quite loud so not somewhere you'd go for a quiet romantic meal but I couldn't fault the food. Only thing I would change is that the service be a little quicker.

The Exchequer 4.5 star review: I've eaten here twice recently - once on a Tuesday and again on a Friday evening. On both occasions the staff were very attentive and helpful. The menu is also well thought out with lots of options. I think it's a great option for a night out with friends especially over the weekend - although booking is probably essential as it gets jam-packed. During the week though it has a really nice chilled out atmosphere.

The Exchequer 3.5 star review: I had a late lunch in the Exchequer with work colleagues. All of the food was very well presented and tasty. The steak sandwich was cooked to order on crusty break with chips. I had seafood chowder and an open smoked salmon sandwich. Also on the menu was beer battered ling, a variety of salads and fish pie. The service was excellent and there's lots of seating for groups. The food is very well presented and tastes great!

The Exchequer 4.0 star review: It was quite loud but I guess that depends on other groups having dinner at the same time. Food was quite good. Service was alright. They made it clear that they were annoyed we wanted to split the bill without saying it before (maybe they can ask as well, as foreigners we don't always know the customs and they are used to have tourists), but they did it anyway. We spotted an error in the bill and even if they didn't believe us and said it was the right price, they finally double-checked the price and corrected it explaining that their software had a problem.

The Exchequer 4.5 star review: Great party atmosphere on a saturday night. Delicious cocktails. The food was very good value at just under 17 euros for an early bird. Will be back to try the sunday roast sounds great.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
