On arrival to Ely I was very happy with table we were shown to as it was a round table which made conversation easy. We had planned to order from the pre-theatre menu. It had a few options on it but some of my party choose to go with the main menu which worked out the same price as the pre-theatre one. The food was really good and very enjoyable. The only negative i would have is that 2 of our party were given their main course over 5 mins before the rest of us, so to avoid it going cold they had to start. I would definitely return to Ely again.

As I was attending a show in the theatre, I booked a table for an early bird. I had checked the menus in advance on the website and saw that there was a wide choice of four starters and five main courses.
I was surprised and disappointed to be given an early bird menu which had a single starter and just two mains, neither of which appealed. I thought a pre theatre menu was supposed to be cheap because you’re coming early – not because you’ll be given the cheapest ingredients and no choice.
In the end we ordered off the main dinner menu and the rib eye steak and fish and chips were very tasty. In fact, the fish and chips (at €14.95) and soup (at €5.50) from the dinner menu (a total of €20.45) were quite a bit cheaper than the pre theatre menu at €23.50 for two courses.
The service and quality of the food was good, but we came away feeling feeling disappointed by a very badly designed pre-theatre menu offering. If I was a cynical man I might conclude that Ely is deliberately exploiting its proximity to the theatre to draw people in with an early bird menu, and is then charging them a premium price with a poor offering. Either way, they should do better than a pre theatre menu which is more expensive than the regular dinner menu but offers no choice.

Went with family for a pre-theatre meal and was extremely disappointed. Dinner menu states from 5-10pm but you can't order from outside the early-bird (theatre menu) before 7pm. Tart for starters was the best part. Risotto was only ok with quite a lot of the rice undercooked. Others ordered the steak, again a disappointment and the dessert was only o.k.. On complaining about the risotto, we were told that the waiter would tell the chef. At the end of a quite expensive, extremely disappointing meal we were asked did we want to add anything extra on paying the bill even though they were aware we weren't happy with the meal & there was already a service charge included. I certainly won't be recommending it to anybody.

Three of us went here for dinner. Childrens menu is super. Fresh food best served to little one's liking. I had caramelised Onion & venison both of them were great. My partner had Donegal salmon & fish of the day, The main course he had was awful. There is not much choice on the menu and if you are in for early bird times you can't order anything from A'la carte.

Passed by so many times while walking but last Saturday between the rugby and Catherine Jenkins we decided to go in . It was jammed but the maitre di asked if we would take a high table just at the entrance . I love sitting high in bars anyway so this was no problem . Despite being busy the service was prompt and when the food arrived the waiter apologized for the delay ? No delay in our view ! I had game terrine to start, herself smoked salmon . Both excellent but I think a small selection of bread should be included, you know us Irish and our bread with dinner . That's only minor ! The main course sounded simple, burger and chips and I added cheese and a rasher to mine and it was simply divine . The meat was succulent as was the rasher . All was washed down with 2 bottles of Brooklyn lager ! As we were finishing a lady came by asking how we enjoyed the meal and we had a good chat . She was pleasant ,informative and after speaking to her our mind was made up to come back soon with some friends . When we paid our bill the waitress told us that Michelle was one of the owners ,which we hadn't realized .she is a great ad for the place ,unfussy unpretentious . I would heartily recommend a visit to everybody, whether you are attending a concert or not ,it has a lovely atmosphere and is not filled with loud piped music or constant television blaring at you and the staff from the door in to your departure are superb . Beimid ar ais !

Went here with a friend for the pre-theatre menu. Very little choice on it and the usual scam where they charge a supplement for steak. The tart as a starter was tasty, but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be hot or not. Lukewarm ws how mine was served. We both opted for the chicken with risotto which was quite bland a more than a little disappointing. We were left for quite a long time (45 mins) between the first course (which only one of us had) and the second course. People who arrived after us got their main courses before us! Tiramasu and pear for dessert were nice, but overall I was disappointed with my experience.

Myself and my husband dined here before attending the theatre. We were both very pleased with our dining experience. The food was of a high standard and the service was friendly and efficient. We dined from the early bird and whilst we enjoyed our choices it perhaps could have more choice

My husband and I had dinner in Ely Gastro pub in Grand Canal Square on a Saturday evening in September. We started off with a drink outside and enjoyed the trendy vibe and atmosphere of Grand Canal square. There was definitely quite a cross section of people eating at Ely, everything from a mother's group to families to couples and lots of Irish and foreign arty student types.
One point is that it was a lovely sunny evening when we were there, not sure if it would be as good if weather wasn't good??
The food was absolutely delicious. We were there on a deal and I had the duck salad for starter and lobster as main. My husband had a goats cheese waldorf salad and fish of the day (salmon with scallops) for main. All excellent. Cheeseboard to finish was also delicious. The bottle of wine we had as part of the deal wasn't great but the prosecco and other drinks we ordered seperately were lovely.
What definitely stood out for us though was the oustanding service. We couldn't have been better attended to. All of the wait staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and enjoy our meal. One of our waiters was French - I love getting served with someone with a French accent - and the other waiter (also non-Irish) was also so attentive. The manager in particular was great. Would definitely recommend Ely Gastro pub - we'll certainly be back :-)

Have only eaten here once and I will definitely be back again. Went here on a Tuesday night before 'Chicago' in the Grand Canal. They only had the pre-theatre menu on offer but that was fine because I fancied steak and my hubbie fancied a burger and they had both on the menu....I had requested that my steak be done medium rare (I like a bit of blood) but when I got it, there was no blood but the inside was nice and pink...I queried this but apparantely, their beef is dry cured, hence very little blood?? Anyway, it was fantastic. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly and checked in with us now and again, enough to ensure are drinks were topped up.....price wise, if I can remember correctly, for two courses, we paid about €23 each and then my hubbie had two beers and I had two glasses of prosecco...I really liked the vibe of the place and would reccommend it.
