What a find! This atmospheric little traditional bar is in a lovely old house by the sea in its own grounds, in an out of the way spot with beautiful views over a little bay. The atmosphere is so welcoming and relaxed, with the whole famiy being involved in looking after you, you feel you have come into somebody's house. But the real star is the food: Joe is a seriously talented chef who prepares gorgeous fresh local seafood with real flair - his attention to detail and handle on modern cooking is impressive. It's also great value for the quality. We had lobster salad, which was very good value and delicious (the local man who had caught the lobster that day was at the bar!) and the seafood platter was a delight with lovely smoked salmon, prawns, crabmeat, etc. and a lovely little pot of mussels in a gorgeous broth, and also a most perfectly cooked piece of very fresh salmon. We had a few glasses of a lovely organic Sauvignon too. You can hang in the intimate little bar then for the craic and maybe a bit of music and then maybe stay in one of the two beautiful rooms - the family are gradually renovating this old house which has been their home for years, so they will soon be able to offer more rooms. This quirky and laid back little place is a real gem - totally informal and down to earth - and they deserve to do well.
