Visited this café and bakery for lunch one day. The building itself and interior are lovely. It’s situated right beside the river in Skibbereen with a beautiful courtyard terrace for outdoor dining. The menu offers a good choice for lunch and we chose to have the savoury crepes with ham, cheese and relish, this was beautiful and was served with a lovely fresh salad. Unfortunately the portion of one crepe for €6.50 is very small, we would gladly have eaten a second one. Teapots are served on little night light warmers and the peppermint tea is excellent. One thing that did put us off was watching flies crawling on a loaf and slices of bread on a nearby service station, when I mentioned this to the waitress, she thanked me and returned five minutes later and placed a tea towel over the bread.I had really expected the bread to be removed and binned.

Ate here two weeeks ago, went for the Tapas menu , In general was satisfied when leaving, but a few comments are called for, Atmosphere I won't comment on as we had opted for a early meal so the place was not crowded but there was nothing wrong with that. Food: Went for the following La carne de vacuno (Beef kebabs) Espinacas (Spinach & feta briouat ) Patata (Potato bravas) Gambas (West Cork prawns in chermoula – garlic, lemon coriander ) Zaalouk – (Baked aubergine, olive oil and garlic puree ) Queso (Manchego cheese with a tomato jam) Outstanding were the Espinacas, Gambas and the Zaalouk, the Kebabs were ok but thought the bravas could have been spicier and the Manchego was lacking in flavour completely. Service was a tad on the slow side , maybe due to been in early. Value : overall the value was not bad but thought they could reduce their wine prices a bit (house Wine was 18e and the bottle we got was 24e) To finish I would go back and would recommend it to people but would mention my observations.

What I love about the Riverside Cafe is the service. It's friendly and efficient, with a relaxed edge which I enjoy. The restaurant has views of the river and an outdoor seating area. I've eaten there about three or four times and am not sure if they've settled on a menu as it seems to change. The toasted special is a great lunchtime snack and I intend to visit again soon.
