Very helpful staff, I had baby pram etc and they got my lunch for me at carvery and told me to find a seat and they looked after the rest. nice and relaxing there , had turkey which was moist and beautifully seasoned, there was a good selection and lunch was €11.50. An oasis in the centre of town,

Called to The Imperial for our tea yesterday (Sunday evening), first time in a long time i've been in a restaurant where people have had to wait for a table or ring ahead and reserve one - that is a great indication of the reputation The Imperial has. This place is nothing fancy, you get a pint of milk in 2 1/2 pint glasses!!!! But it more than makes up for it in the food, with very generous portions of good quality, home made food at amazingly good value. I'd a chicken & mushroom vol au vent to start, large chunky pieces of chicken in a succulent mushroom sauce, no shortage and at only €5 you couldn't go wrong! My friend had a bowl of homemade veg soup with a basket of bread that would feed an army at €4!!!! We both had steaks, even though there was a very impressive choice on the menu, a lot of chicken dishes and a good variety of fish also. Our third companion choose the chicken goujons, I think he got at least six large homemade goujons with a garlic mayonnaise, side salad & chips. With the sirloin steak we both got chips, pepper sauce, mushrooms & onions, a little side salad on the plate, a bowl of gratin potoatoes, carrots & cauliflower!!!! Pretty impressive and all only €23 - lovely, the only fault I had was that I ordered my steak medium rare and unfortuantately got somebody elses medium well i'd imagine but because it was so busy I decided not to send it back to the kitchen. The service is fast and efficient here, no fuss. After all that there is no way I could have squeezed in a dessert, didn't even look at the menu but will definitely venture back in the near future.
