On Saturday last my girlfriend & I went to De Barra's for lunch. When we arrived there was no greeting so we sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The atmosphere was quite nice & the place had a pleasant look to it. The fact that we were in Bantry we both decided to order fish from the specials menu. I ordered seafood tagliatelle & she ordered fresh baked haddock with a Mediterranean sauce. After about 5 minutes our waitress arrived with breaded fish & chips. We questioned whether this was the haddock which she assured us it was. We called her over to ask where the Mediterranean sauce was and then she took it away saying she didn't realise we had ordered from the specials board. 15 minutes later she arrived back with my seafood tagliatelle and a plate of salad & chips for my partner. We had to call her again to enquire about the haddock which then arrived on a separate plate. My food looked like a dog's dinner. I was given a knife & fork (no spoon) and wasn't offered any parmesan cheese. It tasted more like chicken than fish & I wasn't even sure what type of fish it was supposed to be. The pasta was overdone & it was all served in a watery tomato based sauce which only tasted like onion. Her haddock was rubbery & the sauce tasted like it came from a jar of Ragu rather than inspired by the Med. Noboday came to our table to see how our meal was going even though it was quite obvious that I wasn't eating mine. Towards the end of the meal a different waitress asked if everything was ok. I gave her my honest assessment & she agreed that the food looked below par. I was offered a replacement meal but I wasn't interested at that stage. She said she would sort something out & took my meal away. Again, we were left alone & decided it was time to go. I went to pay & was told that I was being charged just for the drinks & the haddock. I paid & we left. At no point did anyone even apologis for the lack of any service or the extremely poor food. Very disappointing

This is a busy spot especially on a friday morning. Great for a coffee and cake or scone or even a light lunch. The staff are very friendly and there is plenty of seating. Ideal for meeting up with friends for a chat or for a quick bite after doing the shopping.

Came in here for coffee today on a visit from Cork. Lovely coffee and the atmosphere was nice, so came back later again for lunch with my family. I would recommend this restaurant.
