The early bird has a good mix but an early bird should show case the cheaper cuts etc. The starters were small, the breaded prawns were tasty but four little flattened shrimp does not a starter make! The field mushroom was tasty but lacking in some way. I had a glass of white to substitute the desert, easy house white. We both ordered the sirloin, but were very disappointed, I ordered rare adn got medium well, hubbie ordered rare med and got medium well, probably not he fauly of the chef as the steaks were fairly thin. They arrived with a scrap of fried leftover spuds, not impressive. With due respect the host did apologise and give us a drink free. Desert was sticky toffee pudding, it was afine slice but our dinner was spoilt and despite the great service and the very good value, we just weren't in the moood after.

Have been there twice. Once when it first opened and again recently. Both times I was very underwhelmed with the service and the food. We went early evening with the family. the first 'surprise' was to discover that food is only served at certain times and not in the pub. So, after settling with a drink we had to move and sit at a restaurant table. No vegetarian option on the menu. When I asked I was told that they could do the pasta without meat. What arrived was an awful lot of pasta covered in what seemed to be a jar of tomato sauce. Student fare at its best! The staff busied themselves by not paying attention to customers. The burger was fine and kid's meal, the usual nuggets and chips. Overpriced with an identity crisis.

This place has changed alot, for the better! Ownership of the forge changed recently I think, and the food shows it. I took my family here for a chistening meal, about 20 people in total. There was a little confusion about seats + chairs, but nothing bad, all worked out ok The food was very tasty.. now let me explain, it was a carvery, but it was different to the norm 'carvery' .. nice sauces, freshly cooked meats, fresh veg.. even though we arrived near the end of the serving, the food was fresh (ie. no warmups) The staff even served the carvery to the table, called around, them to the table for the group and poured the wine (this was 3pm-ish) My Sister also mentioned the vegetarian option was 'out of this world' and not what she was expecting for a lunch/dinner/carvery sitdown
