2.0 Monks Pub and Seafood Restaurant 2.0 star review:
Myself & 4 others ate here & were hungry. This is not a good condition to be in if you leave the city & are a vegetarian apparently. Obviously it's a seafood restaurant but there was a veggie option (also the cheapest main & that made others interested too) which i was banking on. Our waitress came to take our orders & was not the most helpful. When we enquired as to what the vegetarian option was she gave a one word answer; "linguini". I then asked if there was a sauce with it. "Tomato". Were there vegetables in that? "No." Nice profit margin there. Would that whet your appetite? I think not. So i went for the starter of toasted goats cheese bruschetta. A smear of goats cheese on 4 tiny toasted slices of french stick on a mound of iceberg lettuce covered in chopped peppers arrived. As is unfortunately common I was basically given a plateful of lettuce leaves. I was starving as i left & 8 euros or so poorer. With all that fancy seafood you'd think they could manage a decent vegetable dish with some amount of value for money included. Disappointing.

4.5 Monks Pub and Seafood Restaurant 4.5 star review:
Stopped off in this welcoming pub with an open turf fire on the main road through Ballyvaughen. We had just completed a strenuous walk of the nearby Burren and friends had recommended the legendry house chowder here in the bar. All three of us availed of three bowels of the chowder which came with homemade soda bread. I have to say it was prob the best chowder any of us have ever tasted and was almost a meal in itself! Little pricey at €7.50 a pop but all the other food there looked very good as well

Stopped here while out for a Burne walk. Good parking outside. Seafood excellent, and Im told the pint was good. Staff friendly, big fire on which made a great athmosphere on a cold day. Service was fast and some pleasantries were exchanged with a smile. Prices are high but it has a good name and is popular with tourists which hikes up the bill a bit. A nice treat if out for a Sunday drive but would not be able to afford it too often. Well worth a visit as a treat.
