The Oak Room Restaurant 3.5 star review: Had 3 course for €30 deal with a free glass of wine. I come here often as one of the best places to eat in Cavan. The duck spring roll was lovely as was the duck. Liked the garlic potatoes too. Desserts are gorgeous here too. Can be a little chilly and quiet sometimes. Service can be slow at times if there's a few people in. Staff can be stand-off-ish and quiet. Its up 2 flights of stairs so this could an issue if stairs are a problem as there doesn't seem to be any other access. The deal for €30 is the only menu available so this limits choice a bit. There's about 4 choices for mains and the same for starters and desserts although there are specials on the board. We got told to leave our table as it was needed when we weren't finished our tea which didn't impress. Overall the food is nice and the best quality in Cavan so worth a trip.

The Oak Room Restaurant 4.0 star review: I go here regularly as it's one of about 3 places I enjoy eating in Cavan. It's not haute cuisine but it's the only choice if you are not interested in a steakhouse. It's a bistro and the flavours are usually good. This was a meal for an occasion and we went for earlybird 3 courses plus glass of wine. I feel as though the chef is different this time as the food seems very different (not as good as last time, the chips were cut differently, there was less finesse on the dishes). The garlic potatoes are very bland, under salted and not much garlic so I will not be ordering them again. The chips are very nice, steak is always really good even if it's just sirloin, fish is excellent too but both usually have a supplement to the great value early bird. The early bird is served all night, which a lot of restaurants seem to be doing. Wine is pleasant - spicy cab sav and a fresh sauv blanc if I remember correctly - and both were middle of the road decent. I return here as it's fairly consistent. On the plus its early bird is superb value, they even have a loyalty card that gets you a free meal (but they don't ask you for it so you have to remember) You will not find any farmers eating their daily stodge in here. On the downs there is sometimes a draft, little or no music that I remember, atmosphere could improve, it is sometimes cold, last time I smelled something bad but it might have been a customer, staff are very quiet (no how are you today) but still polite, they don't do a bernaise sauce with the steak WHY oh why as it's in fashion and doesn't exactly take long to whip up. Desserts are a must here - somebody knows their stuff. Think I had white chocolate and honeycomb cheesecake - couldn't taste the honeycomb but it still topped all desserts I've had this year. Thumbs up - give it a go.

The Oak Room Restaurant 3.0 star review: Came here with a friend on a tuesday evening for the early bird menu. It's €25 for three courses. I had brie for starter which was fine, the salad it came on though was soggy and sweet, not to my tasting. For mains I had the steak rare. This was very disappointing. It was a very thin pale looking steak and lacked any flavour. The peppercorn sauce was very thin almost like gravy. The tripple fried chips were the best bit of the main course. The desserts were the best of the three courses. I had the banoffee and my friend had the brownie, both were delicious. For a Tuesday night the place was busy enough, the decor was nice and the service was fine too. However the startes and especially the mains were so disappointing that I wont be rushing back

The Oak Room Restaurant 4.0 star review: Ate here with a large party and found this went against us. The food was excellent and great value for money but the service left a lot to be desired. The wine was left away from the table and we had to eventually get up and get it ourselves. We were not asked did we want more wine or did we want tea or coffee.. They seemed to pay excellent attention to any of the couples or small tables that were there. We felt like we were not wanted. Saying all that I would go back based on the quality of the food and the value.

I wonder if your service was lacking because they charge a service fee for groups? So they feel they don't need to make an extra effort to earn a nice tip?

The Oak Room Restaurant 5.0 star review: I had dinner here a couple of weeks ago with some friends and had a great time. Service was fast and the staff were very friendly. Duck was tasty and very reasonably priced. I'd have no problem recommending this or going back if I'm ever back around Cavan.

The Oak Room Restaurant 5.0 star review: A group of friends and I dined at this restaurant recently and have to say we had a fantastic night. The food was delicious and the service was top class. The Oak Room have a dinner menu for E25.00 per person and you really do get value for money. We where on the top floor and we loved it, lots of room, tables not too close together and the air conditioning kept the temperature nice and cool. I will definately be back to this restaurant as I don't think there is anywhere that beats it for its value and service.

The Oak Room Restaurant 3.0 star review: The restaurant is well laid out and clean. We were on the top floor and it was to hot there was air con but it was not on. The innital waitress who took our order was lovely but after that we had very transactional the other two waitresses were very cold and did not speak not even to enquire if we enjoyed our meal.

The food was lovely no doubt about that but the atmosphere was not nice this is why i believe it was not value for money as you pay the same price locally elsewhere where the staff are lovely
